A tragic incident unfolded on Columbus's south side when a 58-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle operated by a 17-year-old driver. According to the Columbus Division of Police, the accident occurred on the 1300 block of Marion Road around 4:50 p.m. yesterday. The name of the victim has not been released pending family notification. The teen was arrested in connection to the man's death, as stated by Sgt. Joseph Albert in a report by WBNS.

Further details provided by the Columbus police reveal that the teen was engaging in reckless driving behavior, commonly referred to as 'doing donuts', when the accident happened. The youth was behind the wheel of a 2007 Nissan 350 Z that veered off the north side of Marion Road onto the sidewalk, colliding with the pedestrian. Authorities, who arrived promptly at the scene, found the vehicle with substantial front-end damage and took the teen into custody. According to The Columbus Dispatch, the young driver is expected to face charges including operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Sgt. Albert noted an increase in pedestrian accidents around this time of year, attributing the rise to both better weather and more outdoor activities. "We caution people, especially kids, we see kids out playing this time of year, just remind them not to run out in the street," Albert urged in a statement obtained by NBC4i. He emphasized the importance of adult supervision in preventing such tragedies, especially in cases where children might chase after balls or toys that venture into the street.
