A serious car collision occurred yesterday at the intersection of Mendocino Avenue and Fountaingrove Parkway, Santa Rosa, bringing emergency services to a standstill. The Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) reported that the call came in around 9:10 am, with witnesses describing the two vehicles involved as a red Nissan and a green Toyota. The driver of the Nissan was found with severe, life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
Upon their arrival, SRPD officers, along with Fire and Medical personnel, found the Nissan driver in a state of distress and unconscious. Despite CPR and other life-saving measures initiated at the scene, the individual’s condition remains critical. According to a social media post from Santa Rosa Police, the driver and passenger of the Toyota sustained minor injuries and stayed on scene post-incident.
Field Evidence Technicians and Accident Investigators from the Santa Rosa Police have since taken over the detailed examination, piecing together witness accounts and statements from those involved. The collision's dynamics suggest that the red Nissan accelerated rapidly after the traffic light turned green, colliding with the Toyota ahead, pushing both vehicles through the intersection, and causing a light pole severed by the impact.
Initial investigations suggest that the Nissan driver's possible medical emergency contributed to the accident. The force of the collision was significant, with both vehicles ending up around 200 feet up Fountaingrove Parkway from the intersection and the light pole completely knocked down. The area was closed for approximately three hours to allow for the ongoing investigation.
