The manhunt for a murder suspect has come to an end, with the DeSoto Police Department sharing news of the capture on their social media platforms. Lewis Ray Harper Jr., 25, was taken into custody on February 27 in Lancaster, Texas. He was wanted for a murder committed in Dallas back in August 2020. According to the DeSoto Police Department's Facebook post, Harper's capture was the result of an intensive effort by both patrol officers and detectives.
The breakthrough in the case came through the use of facial recognition technology, which identified Harper following a recent foot chase recorded on police body cameras. Despite evading capture on foot, days of meticulous investigation led to his location at a motel in Lancaster, police say.
In an impressive display of coordination, Harper was apprehended during a traffic stop by DeSoto Detectives with the support of Patrol units, the arrest was conducted without incident.
