Dequan Andre Sierra, a basketball coach at Nova High School in Davie, has been placed under arrest due to allegations of sex-related offenses involving a minor. The 29-year-old coach appeared in court yesterday, charged with one count of solicitation with a minor by an authority figure and one count of unlawful sexual activity with a person 16 or 17 years old, as reported by WSVN. Sierra, who is also employed as a classroom monitor at Nova High, has been ordered to completely avoid any contact with the victim.

During his bond court appearance at the Broward main jail in Fort Lauderdale, Sierra faced charges for authority figure solicitation/engage in sexual conduct with a bond set at $25,000, alongside sexual assault by a person 24 or older on a victim aged 16 or 17, with an equal bond amount, as CBS Miami reported. Broward Sheriff’s Office’s Weston District deputies made the arrest on Friday, with Sierra now on a $50,000 total bond as confirmed by judicial records.

In light of these developments, the spokesperson for Broward County Public Schools (BCPS), John J. Sullivan, released a statement declaring, "BCPS is deeply disturbed by the allegations and remains committed to ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all students." In accordance with the investigation, Sierra "will be reassigned away from the school and students pending the outcome of the investigation and will face termination if the allegations are substantiated," a sentiment echoed in both reports from WSVN and CBS Miami.

BCPS has temporarily reassigned Sierra away from contact with students as the investigation continues. The school district has expressed its resolve to rigorously pursue any necessary disciplinary action should the allegations prove to be true, a commitment they have openly shared with both the school community and the public.

The situation remains under close examination, with further details expected to be disclosed as the investigation progresses. CBS Miami has attempted to contact the Broward County Sheriff's office for additional arrest records but had not received a response at the time of their publication.
