Davis residents have until June 1 to file for exemptions from the special library parcel tax. Exemptions apply to purely agricultural properties, those with restrictions preventing development, and homes with incomes just below the poverty line for a family of four.
Exemptions provide financial relief but come with specific requirements. Agricultural properties must be zoned and used for farming, with no residential dwellings. Non-buildable properties, due to size or regulatory restrictions, and low-income homeowners earning less than $62,400 in 2024 (200% of the poverty line) can apply. One form per parcel is required to claim the exemption, which helps fund the Davis library system, according to YoloCounty.gov.
The tax costs $172.22 for a single-family home, while multi-family units pay $86.11 each. These funds support the Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Library and the Walnut Park Library in South Davis. Exemption forms are available on the library’s website or can be requested by phone at (530) 666-8005 during business hours, Monday through Friday.
For those with questions or needing guidance, Susan Barnes from SCI Consulting Group is available at (707) 430-4300. She can help clarify exemption eligibility and the process, making it easier for residents to navigate the requirements and reduce their tax bill.
