Denver residents are looking at a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to weather this week, according to the National Weather Service. While the sky was mostly clear with temperatures resting at a chilly 24°F early this morning, the area is expected to warm up to a comfortable 54°F by this afternoon. However, it might be wise to keep the winter jacket handy as nightfall is slated to bring the mercury down again with lows around 33°F, as reported by the National Weather Service.
The forecast becomes increasingly dicey as we transition into Thursday, with a 30% chance of rain and snow creeping in after 11 am. The high should hover near 57°F before the light and variable wind decides to swiftly become more aggressive, threatening to gust as high as 21 mph. The weather service anticipates little to no snow accumulation, but travelers should be prepared, especially since the mountains are expected to see 2 to 5 inches of snowfall tonight.
As we move towards the weekend, Friday is looking like a snowy affair, with a 60% likelihood of snow, mainly after 11 am, and a more subdued high of 39°F. This could mean a few white patches on city streets and a reminder that winter hasn't fully retreated. Nighttime isn’t expected to offer much respite from the cold as temperatures are predicted to drop to around 22°F, with a lingering 30% chance of snow before the skies start to clear.
Looking ahead to Saturday and beyond, Denverites can anticipate a return to more agreeable weather conditions. Saturday should bring a hearty dose of sunshine with high temperatures rebounding nicely to around 50°F. This pleasant trend is expected to well continue into next week, with the mercury potentially making a comfortable ascent to nearly 69°F by Monday. So while the weather will be playing a bit of a rollercoaster game over the next few days, the forecast promises a mild and sunny disposition for most of the coming week.
Local skiers, meanwhile, might want to take advantage before conditions on the slopes are too mild. The National Weather Service's hazardous weather outlook warns of poor travel conditions in the mountains Thursday night through Saturday morning due to snowfall. Denver residents engaging in outdoor activities or commuting should take heed of the changing conditions and remember that March, as always, is keen to keep us guessing with its fickle weather patterns.
