A Detroit man, identified as Christopher Wade, has been sentenced to a little over two years in federal prison after firing shots on a crowded sidewalk during an incident that occurred last July, as officially announced by Acting United States Attorney Julie A. Beck. Joining in the announcement, James Deir, Special Agent in Charge of the Detroit Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison, shared that the 30-year-old Wade received a 25-month sentence handed down by United States District Judge Matthew F. Leitman.

Following an apparent dispute, Wade discharged nine rounds near the intersection of Woodward Avenue and Adams Avenue, which is usually bustling with activity. It was by a providence that no one was injured in the shooting, but it did result in property damage; a witness claimed that her vehicle was hit by one of the bullets. According to court records released by the U.S. Attorney's Office, Detroit police officers were able to respond rapidly and apprehend Wade without further complications.

This sentencing follows Wade's November 2024 guilty plea to being a felon in possession of a firearm. His history of similar offenses was weighed in his sentencing, as this July shooting marked the second instance in a one-month span where he fired a gun in public and the fourth within the last decade. Wade's actions were captured on security video, providing clear evidence of his wrongdoing.

In pursuit of justice, Assistant United States Attorney Philip M. Jacques led the prosecution of the case, which resulted from a collaborative investigation between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with assistance from the Detroit Police Department.
