Acting U.S. Attorney Nelson S.T. Thayer, Jr. announced the sentencing of Jesus Del Orbe, a 55-year-old Dominican national, to 21 months in prison followed by a year of supervised release after he pleaded guilty to illegally reentering the United States, as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Del Orbe, also known by aliases "Angel Cabrera-Santiago" and "Jesus Valdez-Del Orbe," had faced indictment last August, and by November, admitted to the illegal reentry charge.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials apprehended Del Orbe in July of 2024 while he was working at a Philly tire shop; this follows three previous deportations from the U.S., dates being March 1, 2016, February 20, 2018, and November 17, 2020, and he had not pursued proper channels to return legally, based on information from immigration records.

"If you’re going to keep breaking the law, we’re going to keep prosecuting you," Acting U.S. Attorney Thayer remarked in the official statement. The prosecution intends to hold repeat offenders accountable and this sentiment is echoed by ERO Philadelphia Acting Field Office Director Brian McShane, who stated, "The repeated illegal reentry by Jesus Del Orbe demonstrates a flagrant disregard for our nation’s immigration laws."

McShane also emphasized the commitment to maintaining the integrity of the immigration system, stating, "This sentence underscores our commitment to upholding the rule of law and integrity of our immigration system," and declaring the pursuit of safety and security in communities as their steadfast goal, the case itself was subjected to an investigation by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations and is managed in the courtroom by Assistant United States Attorney John J. Boscia.
