Officials said the shooting happened near North Bancroft Street and Lehigh Avenue, but police did not provide additional information about the incident, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Gunshot victims from this stretch of the city are typically taken to Temple University Hospital's Main Campus on North Broad Street, which operates Southeastern Pennsylvania's busiest Level 1 adult trauma center, according to Temple Health. The hospital sits just blocks from the Lehigh Avenue corridor.
A Corridor With a History of Violence
This isn't the first time the Bancroft and Lehigh area has drawn police tape. Back in November 2022, a late-night double shooting that began on the 1600 block of West Lehigh Avenue left a 42-year-old victim just blocks away on the 2600 block of North Bancroft Street, per CBS News. In that earlier case, a second victim, 28, walked into Temple University Hospital with a chest wound while officers recovered a firearm at the scene.
More recently, Hoodline reported that a 16-year-old was shot in April along West Lehigh Avenue near North Broad Street and was hospitalized in stable condition. Just days later, reports described a separate double shooting involving at least 27 shots and two victims.
