Downtown Detroit is bracing for significant changes with the commencement of streetscape construction in the Greektown and Bricktown districts, a move poised to reshape the area's aesthetic and functional landscape. As reported by The Detroit News, the first phase of road closures will kick off this week, targeting Monroe Street between Randolph Street and Interstate 375 Service Drive. Spearheaded by the Greektown Neighborhood Partnership, this initiative aims to transform Monroe Street into a pedestrian-friendly zone with expanded sidewalks and new trees.

This ambitious project, slated for completion by summer 2026, is part of the partnership's plans to inject greater economic and cultural vitality into Greektown. Still, during construction, which started yesterday, businesses along Randolph and Monroe will remain open, ensuring pedestrian access to Greektown is maintained, as detailed by the City of Detroit announcement. While working to install the new streetscape, Monroe Street will see a closure, trying to minimize disruptions to the bustling district life.

Concurrently, an undertaking led by the City of Detroit's Department of Public Works will focus on Randolph Street, which will stay open for vehicles during the streetscape construction with some lane closures and parking restrictions. This project is expected to reach completion by the end of 2025. Navigating these transformations, Detroit residents and visitors can still access the Hollywood Casino parking garage via entrances on Macomb Street and the Chrysler Freeway Service Drive.
