A harrowing scene unfolded at a Staten Island laundromat yesterday evening, where a van driver and six others were injured after the vehicle careened into the storefront. The incident occurred around 6:50 p.m. at the Laundry Corner, located at 158 South Avenue in the Mariners Harbor neighborhood, according to 1010 WINS.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene, where footage captured by the Citizen App showed a white van lodged in the laundromat's facade. Seven people, including the driver who sustained severe body trauma, were taken to area hospitals. The 65-year-old driver was listed in critical condition, reported by ABC7 New York.

While the laundromat was promptly boarded up the following morning, the full extent of the damage became apparent as crews worked diligently to repair a power line that had fallen during the mayhem. The Buildings Department has since mandated the building's owner to recruit an engineer to evaluate the premises and to present the findings regarding necessary repairs. Specifics about what might have led the van to jump the curb and disrupt the power line before its violent intrusion are still under investigation.

The condition of the other six victims, whose injuries are now stable, has not been fully disclosed. It remains uncertain whether they were patrons within the laundromat, or passersby caught in the unexpected path of the careening vehicle.
