Mayor of Eden Prairie, Ron Case, is tapping into a national effort to encourage residents to embark on a path of water conservation and sustainable practices. Beginning in April, local citizens will have the opportunity to partake in the National Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation, a campaign that nudges folks to integrate everyday actions that benefit both their community and environment.
The initiative calls upon individuals to consciously pledge to adopt measures that could directly contribute to water, pollution, and energy savings. According to an announcement on the city's official website, residents can pledge to "washing only full loads of laundry, fixing leaky faucets, and biking short distances."
Individuals who pledge their commitment to conservation are eligible to win a variety of eco-friendly prizes. As detailed on the city's website, these rewards include "utility bill credits, irrigation products and gift cards," altogether totaling more than $50,000 in value.
