The El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) Board of Trustees, after considerable input from the community, has given the green light to the academic calendars for both the 2025-26 and 2026-27 school years. The decision, which occurred during the regular board meeting on February 18, reflects the preferences and needs of the district's stakeholders, including students, families, and educators. According to El Paso ISD, the community played a pivotal role in designing and voting on the instructional schedules.
The revisions for the 2025-26 academic year, as posted by EPISD, outline that Option B was the chosen plan, featuring changes such as the shifting of an Early Release Day to October 31 from the previously slated September 24, and the elimination of some Early Release Days. This balance, the district emphasizes, seeks to maintain equilibrium between instructional time and opportunities for professional development for educators.
As for the 2026-27 calendar highlights, Option B carries the day once again. Changes include observing President's Day and March 29 as full school days while gifting students with a full two-week break in the spring, instead of the previously proposed eight-day respite. This, in essence, affirms EPISD's commitment to maximizing instructional time while also recognizing the importance of structured breaks for academic success and overall well-being.
