It was a challenging weekend for the EPCC Baseball and Softball teams, as they faced tough competition in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) on the road. The EPCC baseball squad met with a series of defeats against New Mexico Junior College, dropping three out of four games over the weekend. According to EPCC News, the Tejanos came up short in the opening game with a 5-3 loss on Friday, clinched a nail-biting 14-13 victory in the second game, but couldn’t carry that momentum into Saturday's matchups, which ended in 6-5 and 17-4 losses, respectively.
The softball team didn't fare much better, losing three out of four games against Howard College. The Tejanas were shut out 9-0 in Friday's opening game, bounced back with a 6-4 win in the second, but faced a tough day on Saturday with losses of 10-2 and 8-2. EPCC's softball team now stands at an even .500 for both their overall and conference records, as reported by EPCC News.
Looking ahead, the EPCC baseball team, holding a record of 26-10 overall and 8-8 in conference play, will attempt to regroup as they are set to host Howard College in doubleheaders on Friday, April 4, and Saturday, April 5. Fans can expect the first pitches at noon and approximately 2:00 p.m. as the Tejanos look to improve their standing in the WJCAC.
Similarly, the EPCC softball team is preparing to host Clarendon College in a series that could offer a chance to turn their fortunes around. With Clarendon reeling from a winless season so far, the Tejanas will take the field on Friday, April 4, with games at 1:00 p.m. and approximately 3:00 p.m., followed by a Saturday doubleheader starting at 11:00 a.m.. It’s a golden opportunity for EPCC's softball team to boost their 12-12 overall record and 5-3 conference standing, as they face an opponent struggling with a 0-33 overall record and an 0-8 mark in the WJCAC.
