El Paso Community College (EPCC) blended the legacy of Cesar Chavez with eco-conscious celebration at their combined Cesar Chavez Day and Earth Day event, held at the Americana Village on the Valle Verde campus. The day sought to honor the late Chavez, known for his work as a labor leader and champion of environmental justice. This year's festivities were coordinated through EPCC's Pasos Program in collaboration with the Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher Education (TACHE).

According to EPCC News, attendees were treated to a car show, a selection of books, diverse food options, plant sales, booths from community vendors, and the potential thrill of winning door prizes. Assisting students to bridge their academic and career trajectories, EPCC's Career and Transfer Services was present alongside student club stations, admissions supervisors, and representatives from Family Friendly Campus Services.

The Pasos Program at EPCC strives to empower the USA/Mexico border community. With a commitment to classroom engagement, educational and creative initiatives, family-oriented activities, service learning, and community activism, the program lays a foundation to cultivate active and informed citizens.

In a nod to Chavez's enduring words, "The fight is never about grapes or lettuce, it is always about people," the event centered around elevating the human element within social and environmental causes, as per EPCC News. This year's Earth Day is scheduled for April 22, emphasizing the continuing necessity to conscientiously care for our planet and honor those who have fought to make such stewardship resonate within our communities.
