Last week, a blaze erupted on a second-floor patio of an Escondido apartment building, sending residents into a momentary panic and first responders racing against time. The City of Escondido reported that the fire department was dispatched after the North Com Dispatch Center received the emergency call at about 4:26 p.m. last Thursday. Upon arrival, smoke was seen billowing from the upper floor of a three-story structure on the 1500 block of S. Escondido Blvd.
Firefighters at the scene asked for additional resources as they fought the potential for the fire to spread and imminent threats to the residents' safety. The fire, which was wrestled under control in around 20 minutes, caused minor damage to an upstairs bedroom and some water damage to the apartment below. The Escondido government's online statement detailed that no injuries were reported for civilians and firefighters in this incident.
While the fire brigade successfully staved off a larger crisis, Escondido Police set up road closures to ensure the safety of the community and the efficiency of the emergency services. A fleet of 5 fire engines, 2 trucks, 1 rescue ambulance, and 2 battalion chiefs were dispatched to the scene, all contributing to the swift containment of the fire.
The investigation into the fire's origin remains ongoing.
