Last Sunday, Fairfield Police's response to a distressing scene unfolded into a high-speed chase culminating in the arrest of an armed and dangerous individual. According to a social media post by the Fairfield Police Department, officers were called to the 1400 block of Phoenix Drive, where a man, later identified as 26-year-old Aldair Alday of Fairfield, was reportedly armed with a gun and had fired the weapon during an argument.
The situation escalated when Officer Amavisca arrived to find a black car, linked to the reported armed individual, speeding away from the scene. Despite immediately activating the patrol car's emergency signals, a high-speed chase ensued onto westbound Interstate 80. The California Highway Patrol's Air Support and ground units were called in to take control, but Alday's run from the law took a surprising turn as he suddenly halted on the freeway, exiting his vehicle to escape on foot.
Though Alday's dash was anything but swift, it was definitively concluded by the collaborative efforts of several police departments. With a joint operation involving teams from CHP-Solano, Richmond PD, El Cerrito Police, and Kensington PD, the suspect was soon in custody. As detailed in the Fairfield Police Department's account, Alday, a convicted felon, was not only weighed down by two outstanding warrants but was further booked on multiple charges, including negligent discharge of a firearm, evading arrest, DUI, possession of a controlled substance, and illegal possession of ammunition.
