A tragic start to the week unfolded on State Road 54 near Lutz earlier today, where a severe traffic accident resulted in one fatality and left another individual with serious injuries. The incident was first reported by Pasco News Online, which detailed a head-on collision that took place at approximately 7:55 a.m.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an Infiniti G37 was traveling westbound on SR-54, west of Heron Cove Drive, when it failed to properly navigate a curve. The vehicle veered into the grass median and overturned before re-entering the eastbound travel lanes, where it collided head-on with a Tesla Model 3. The Infiniti caught on fire shortly after impact. Both drivers were airlifted to hospitals — the driver of the Tesla Model 3 later succumbed to their injuries, while the driver of the Infiniti remains hospitalized in serious condition, as reported by FOX 13 News.
The aftermath of the crash had significant repercussions on traffic in the area, with the roadway being closed for multiple hours while emergency services cleared the accident scene.
