Early Monday morning, a pedestrian was fatally injured in a suspected hit-and-run accident in Las Vegas' Historic Westside neighborhood. The incident occurred around 2:17 a.m. near the crossroads of Owens Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, News 3 LV reported. The vehicle involved did tragically not remain on the scene after striking the pedestrian, who later succumbed to their injuries.
This unfortunate event has prompted an investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Fatal Detail. The intersection was closed off to traffic as detectives began to thoroughly piece together the events that ended a person's life. FOX5 relayed a statement from a Metro watch commander, who confirmed, "The vehicle did not remain on scene."
As of now, the identity of the pedestrian has not been released, and police have yet to provide further detailed information regarding the circumstances surrounding the crash. Both the local community and law enforcement are seeking answers and any potential witnesses to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
Residents and commuters were advised to avoid the area of Owens and MLK Boulevard, which remained closed for some time to facilitate the inquiry. As the investigation continues, officials urge anyone with information that could help find the driver responsible to contact the authorities.
