A fatal collision on Monday evening in Allegan County's Leighton Township took the life of a motorist after their vehicle struck a tree. According to FOX 17, the incident occurred before 7:30 p.m. on the 4700 block of 7th Street, and the driver was pronounced dead on the scene by first responders.

The victim's identity has not been disclosed as authorities work to inform the next of kin. Deputies noted the motorist was traveling southward alone when their vehicle veered from the road. Speed appears to have contributed to the crash, says MLive.

WOODTV reported that the Allegan County Sheriff's Office is conducting a preliminary investigation into the crash involving a southbound sport-utility vehicle. The vehicle's sole occupant failed to remain on the road, resulting in a collision with a tree.
