Last Thursday evening's commute near Fort Collins turned tragic after a multi-vehicle incident on Interstate 25 resulted in a fatality. The Colorado State Patrol received a call regarding a two-vehicle collision under the Harmony Road bridge on the northbound side. One vehicle had rear-ended the other, initially, there were no injuries reported from the crash, however, the situation quickly escalated, as reported by KDVR.

According to Denver7, the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the rear-ending fled the scene, dashing into southbound traffic before law enforcement arrived and was subsequently hit by a third vehicle, the driver who fled was transported to a local hospital but later pronounced dead, and now the Larimer County Coroner's Office is tasked with releasing their identity once proper notifications have been made.

Nobody else involved in the chain of events reported injuries; the drivers from the initial collision and the third vehicle have remained at the scene and are cooperating with the ongoing investigation, as reported by the Coloradoan.

For several hours during the evening rush, the interstate was shut down in both directions with northbound I-25 closing for the investigation but managed to reopen at around 7:15 p.m.; however, the southbound lanes remained closed for a more extended period, according to CSP, traffic on the southbound side of I-25 was snarled until later in the evening around 8 p.m., when it too reopened and normal traffic resumed.
