Chaos erupted in south Houston early Sunday when a gunman opened fire at a local nightclub, injuring five patrons. The incident unfolded at The Address Bar & Grill on 3333 Raleigh St. Around 2:30 a.m., surveillance footage captured a man dressed in black walking up to the bar's front doors and commencing the attack, as reported by the Houston Chronicle.
According to Assistant Chief Luis Menendez-Sierra of the Houston Police Department, the five individuals struck by gunfire were promptly transported to various hospitals. Three are now in stable condition with remaining two in critical condition, as detailed by KHOU 11. Menendez-Sierra noted that there had been an altercation at the club about 30 minutes prior to the shooting, but it remains uncertain whether the fight and the subsequent shooting are correlated.
The suspect, after the shooting, fled in a white four-door vehicle and has yet to be apprehended by the police. Menendez-Sierra said, "At this point, it looks like he was just randomly shooting inside the club," indicating that the gunman wasn't targeting any specific individuals. This statement, described to the KHOU 11, adds a chilling layer to the already unsettling event.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene with people fleeing and shots ringing out. "The club was closing, everybody was coming out, everybody just standing up, and then you just hear shots," Tarik Kelsaw, a witness, told KHOU 11. "Turned around and see somebody shooting and then everybody running." The Houston Police Department is actively seeking information and encourages anyone with knowledge of the shooting to come forward.
