A peculiar car accident has reportedly occurred in Broomfield on Tuesday, linked to an uncommon yet seemingly innocuous cause: flip flops. In an event that serves as a stark reminder of the risks of driving with loose objects in the vehicle, a young woman's footwear led to an unintended acceleration incident at a local Popeye's Chicken.
The mishap unfolded on Flatiron Crossing Drive, where, according to the Broomfield Police Department, via a social media post, the driver kicked off her flip-flops while navigating her vehicle. The abandoned shoes, having taken up a perilous position under the car's pedals, became an unexpected trap as the driver attempted to regain them while parking. The flip flops entangled with her foot and the vehicle's accelerator, launching her car over the sidewalk and causing it to crash into the building.
Fortunately, this unusual set of circumstances did not result in any injuries to bystanders or the hapless driver. The local police took to social media to share the sequence of events which, took place trying to slip her flip flops back on pulling into a parking space at the restaurant, "She said she got her foot caught on the accelerator and pushed it to the floor. That caused her vehicle to jump the sidewalk and crash into the building," as obtained by the Broomfield Police Department.
