Community members in Florida are urged to be on the lookout for 82-year-old Leonard Gilman, whose absence has triggered a Silver Alert. Gilman, who is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, departed from his home yesterday and has not been seen since then. He was driving a 2018 white Honda Pilot, recognizable by its Florida tag ETMB41. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Gilman was last spotted wearing a long-sleeve gray shirt, black shorts, and the man, who has a full white beard and is bald, wore brown slippers.
The latest sighting of Gilman's vehicle was yesterday at approximately 12:52 a.m., eastbound on Big Bend Road, west of Lincoln Road. Any individuals with information on Gilman's whereabouts are encouraged to come forward, as his family and authorities are concerned for his safety. The Silver Alert system, which aids in the recovery of missing elderly individuals, especially those with mental impairments, has proven to be vital in these instances.
Gilman stands as a symbol for the countless older adults who live with the harsh realities of cognitive disorders like Alzheimer's. The situation underscores the constant vigilance required by both families and communities to ensure the safety of those who, through no fault of their own, become disoriented or lost. The Sheriff's Office has asked the public to keep an eye out for a white Honda Pilot with a specific Florida license plate, recognizing that often, it is the watchful eyes of everyday citizens that lead to a safe return.
Anyone with information is strongly urged to contact local law enforcement. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office can be reached directly as they continue to spearhead the search efforts for Mr. Gilman.
