Baltimore County authorities have reported the arrest of Ronald Neverdon, a 78-year-old former staffer at Charles H. Hickey, Jr. School, on charges including multiple counts of sexual abuse of a minor and sexual offense in the third degree. Baltimore County Police Department announced Wednesday that Neverdon's alleged abuses spanned over a decade, starting from 1976 through 1988.
The department was first alerted to these allegations in April 2024 when someone came forward with claims against Neverdon. Despite the passage of decades, the Baltimore County Crimes Against Children Unit detectives conducted a scrupulous investigation, leading to Neverdon's arrest on Wednesday. Details about the allegations or the number of potential victims involved have not been publicly available.
It is not clear if Neverdon has made any public statements regarding the charges. And while the Baltimore County Police Department has not revealed specifics about the evidence that led to his arrest, they have encouraged anyone with information about the case to get in touch. Survivors of sexual abuse and their advocates recognize such arrests not only as a potential closure for those directly involved but as a signal to other survivors that justice, no matter how delayed, is still within reach.
