A former physical education teacher in La Porte, Texas, is facing serious charges for possession of child pornography. Kody Caleb Smith, age 35, stands accused of having three counts of felony possession based on evidence discovered at his home. According to CW39 Houston, Smith allegedly confessed to downloading roughly 77 files of illegal material after relocating from Seabrook.
The investigation into Smith's activities began late last year when La Porte police followed up on a cyber tip about someone in the area downloading questionable files. As reported by abc13, the contents of the files were said to involve the sexual assault of very young children. Smith, who was a La Porte ISD employee at the time, resigned from his position following the issuance of a search warrant for his residence.
Smith's home was the scene where authorities discovered the incriminating evidence on his phones and laptops. He allegedly admitted to downloading hundreds of items of sexual content involving children over a near three-year span. CW39 Houston mentioned that police indicated all of the pornographic material was obtained from dark sites on the internet. Officials have stated that there is currently no evidence to suggest any child victims are from La Porte in relation to this case.
After charges were filed on March 5 and an arrest warrant was issued, Smith is now wanted by the police. Updates on the case are being shared on CW39 Houston weekday morning segments with anchors like Sharron Melton and meteorologist Jonathan Novak.
