Commuters and travelers traversing the regions around Fort Collins may have to brace for some construction-induced delays once more, as the I-25 Concrete Panel Replacement Project resumes this month. According to CDOT, work will restart on the southbound portion of Interstate 25 near Fort Collins starting March 17, with an anticipated wrap-up by summer 2025.
Last year, construction crews completed extensive work by removing and replacing concrete panels, and carrying out diamond grinding operations on both northbound and southbound lanes from Colorado Highway 14 in Fort Collins to Owl Canyon Road in Wellington. The efforts aimed to clear the roadway of irregularities stemming from settling, or cracking, setting the foundations of smoother journeys ahead. The current phase includes saw and sealing to bolster pavement longevity and maintain its integrity, as well as permanent striping of the roads. Furthermore, final touches will entail corrective grinding for a more seamless drive, and seeding along the roadside, to stabilize soil and ward off erosion.
For those on the go, it's crucial to note that construction will impact traffic with workday hours scheduled Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Commuters can expect single lane closures throughout the project area, and occasional ramp closures. Nighttime work may extend from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., and a width restriction of 11 feet will be in force during lane closures. A speed limit of 55 MPH is to be maintained through the construction zone for safety, with the increased presence of construction trucks moving in and out of the work area.
