A Fort Collins high school teacher has been arrested on multiple felony charges related to the sexual assault and exploitation of a minor, according to Fort Collins Police Services. The investigation into David Miles, which began following a report made on February 18, 2025, uncovered that he engaged in inappropriate conduct with a juvenile female, who is now an adult, back in 2022. According to the City of Fort Collins, the victim and Miles initially connected via a smartphone application, leading to an exchange of explicit images and eventually sexual contact at the victim's home.
Upon receiving the report, detectives secured a search warrant for Miles' cell phone which provided evidence supporting the allegations; these findings led to Miles' arrest yesterday, and despite each accused being presumed innocent until proven guilty he now faces a Class 6 Felony charge for Sexual Assault and multiple charges of Class 5 and Class 3 Felony relating to the Sexual Exploitation of a Child. Lieutenant Sara Lynd, heading the FCPS Crimes Against Persons Unit, praised the investigative team for their diligence "Protecting youth from any type of sexual exploitation and assault is incredibly important to both our community and Fort Collins Police," she said, as per City of Fort Collins.
Miles is currently being held at the Larimer County Jail, with his specific charges including one count of Class 6 Felony – Sexual Assault, two counts of Class 5 Felony – Sexual Exploitation of a Child, access with intent to engage in sexually exploitative material, and one count of Class 3 Felony – Sexual Exploitation of a Child, permitting a child engagement in explicit sexual conduct. With the arrest bringing this case to light, local law enforcement is seeking additional information that may be pertinent to the investigation of Miles’ activities, Detective Matt Dean has been indicated as the contact point for those who might possess information about this case or similar incidents involving Miles.
