A multi-vehicle collision that took place on Loop 202 Red Mountain near McClintock Drive, in Tempe, last Wednesday morning has resulted in four hospitalizations, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix. The incident, which involved a semi-truck and three passenger vehicles, happened shortly after 8 a.m. and provoked a significant disruption to the morning commute.
Following the crash, the Arizona Department of Public Safety confirmed that "Four people have been transported to the hospital. Two people have non-life-threatening injuries, two others have serious to life-threatening injuries," according to a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix. The precise cause of the crash remains undisclosed by investigators at this time.
Footage from the news chopper of Arizona's Family depicted a harrowing scene, with one vehicle partially crushed underneath the semi-truck and debris scattered across the freeway. An additional black SUV was observed on the shoulder, showcasing significant damage to its rear section, which further elicited pressing safety concerns.
While the freeway was heavily congested during the emergency response, it reopened to traffic after 12:30 p.m. The aftermath of the crash, which found evidence of its severity in tangled metal and detritus, was cleared site within a few hours.
