The Metropolitan Police Department has recently taken four individuals into custody connected with an armed carjacking from 2024, shedding light on a case that rattled a Northeast D.C. neighborhood. According to an official release from the MPD, the incident unfolded on December 22, 2024, when officers from the Sixth District received a call about the crime along the 5800 block of Dix Street, Northeast. The victim had been coerced out of her car at gunpoint, and the youths fled in the stolen vehicle, which has since been recovered.
In a concentrated effort to close the case, MPD detectives conducted an extensive investigation that led to a series of arrests carried out under a D.C. Superior Court custody order. A 15-year-old male from Southeast D.C. was arrested last Friday, and a 12-year-old male from Glenarden, MD, was apprehended on Tuesday. One day later, a 16-year-old male from College Park, MD, was taken into custody, along with a 14-year-old female from Landover, MD. The charges include armed carjacking and unauthorized use of a vehicle, signaling the severity of the offenses despite the youthful age of the suspects.
The MPD has not released the names of the minors involved, adhering to privacy laws that protect juvenile identities in criminal cases.
