Frank Carollo has filed papers to run for Miami City Commissioner for District 3. His candidacy follows his eight-year tenure in the same seat and continues the Carollo family legacy, with his brother Joe currently holding the position. If Frank wins and serves a full term, the Carollo presence could span two decades in this role, as per Miami Herald.
However, a new term limits proposal introduced by Commissioner Damian Pardo could disrupt the brothers’ political future. The ordinance aims to limit officials to two terms on the commission and two as mayor throughout their lifetime. As Pardo explained in an NBC Miami interview, the proposal is meant to transform Miami's power structure and bring in fresh ideas, not specifically target the Carollos.
The proposed legislation is on hold until April 10, awaiting a commission ruling. If passed, it will go to the voters in the November ballot. If enacted, the law could invalidate elections for candidates like Frank Carollo if they have already reached the maximum number of terms allowed, even if they win the election.
Meanwhile, Joe Carollo is considering a mayoral run, a position he has held twice before. "Let them suffer in the meantime," he said to NBC Miami about his potential opponents, adding that he has until 45 days before the election to file officially. He expressed strong support for Frank, highlighting his brother’s popularity and effective performance during his previous commission terms.
