Arlington's cultural scene is gearing up to go classical with a live dose of Shakespeare this spring. Starting this April, residents and visitors can prepare to tuck into some Elizabethan theater as Shakespeare LIVE takes the stage at Levitt Pavilion Arlington. According to a recent announcement by the City of Arlington, "As You Like It," one of Bard's most beloved comedies, is set to be performed from April 3 to April 5.
For those keen to experience the live spectacle, showtimes are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Saturday, with Friday offering a matinee at 11 a.m. followed by an evening performance at the same time. Best part? You won't have to shell out a dime; all shows are free, making it easier for everyone to fit some theatrical culture into their schedules quickly. The venue, a known hub for community events, is located conveniently at 100 W. Abram Street.
Not every day do you see a cast studded with alumni like Lou Diamond Phillips, but Shakespeare LIVE boasts involvement from several former UTA students spanning four decades. This crew, including the acclaimed actor himself, has spent a noteworthy year creating a production to make live theatre accessible and enjoyable for the local crowd.
A band of tirelessly working volunteers and local theatre buffs was at the heart of organizing this initiative. With efforts to enrich Arlington's connection to the arts, Shakespeare LIVE sprang to action and is now ready to transform Levitt Pavilion into a makeshift Forest of Arden. Raphael Parry, a veteran with a lengthy two-decade tenure as Executive and Artistic Director for Shakespeare Dallas, will guide a cast of 13 actors in bringing the pastoral comedy alive. Support also comes from the Dance Theatre of Arlington, ensuring the production is as much a feast for the eyes as for the soul.
