Tualatin residents can get free tax help at the Tualatin Public Library on March 19, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Volunteers will assist with filing 2024 tax returns using IRS Direct File and Direct File Oregon, according to the Department of Revenue.
The library at 18878 SW Martinazzi Avenue will offer free tax assistance to up to 4,000 Tualatin residents, helping with federal and state tax filing, including the Earned Income Tax Credit. The Department of Revenue advises taxpayers to use the IRS Eligibility Checker, create an IRS online account through ID.me, and set up a Revenue Online account for a more efficient process. Step-by-step guidance is available online for using IRS Direct File and Direct File Oregon, as reported by the Department of Revenue.
Taxpayers should bring identification documents like a social security card or ITIN, a government-issued photo ID, and income forms such as W-2s and 1099s. IRS Direct File may not support all return types, including those with dividends (Form 1099-DIV) or capital gains. Taxpayers who are not eligible for IRS Direct File can use Direct File Oregon for state returns or explore other free filing options on the IRS website. The initiative encourages Oregonians to use free filing systems to increase participation and access tax credits. Updates and tips are available through the Oregon Tax Tips email newsletter, and more information is on the Free Direct File assistance webpage at local libraries, as stated by the Department of Revenue.
