The County of Maui Office of Recovery has announced a project to remove old pilings along the 700 and 800 blocks of Front Street, beginning in early April. The work will take place between Dickenson Street and Papalaua Street, with road closures and construction equipment expected in the area, according to the County of Maui.

Starting around April 1, construction in Maui will restrict access to certain areas, requiring pedestrians and vehicles to follow designated detours. The County of Maui Office of Recovery announced that nearby recreational land and ocean areas will also be closed. The cleanup effort, involving the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Navy, Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Hawai'i Department of Land and Natural Resources, and the County of Maui, will remove pilings, metal beams, bolts, and other debris remaining from before the 2023 wildfires.

A three-month project is underway to remove 232 concrete piles, with construction set to finish by June 30.
