The Garland Public Libraries have collected accolades like overdue books for two decades. In a recent acknowledgment of their service to the community, the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association has again recognized the network with the Achievement of Excellence. According to the City of Garland's official announcement, this marks the 20th year that Garland's libraries have set themselves apart from the pack.
Casting a wide net across the vast state of Texas, only 102 out of the 542 public library systems managed to grab the title for 2024. And it's not just books that make Garland stand out. The libraries have adapted over the years, focusing on more than stacks and late fees.
They have dialed into digital inclusion, offering services that span from computer skill classes to providing resources for the unemployed and underemployed, much to benefit those pursuing a new path in life.
