Governor Greg Abbott has announced that Garland will host a Music Friendly Texas Community workshop in collaboration with the Texas Music Office and Garland Cultural Arts. The workshop is scheduled for April 3 and will focus on the role of music in the local culture and economy, according to the Office of the Texas Governor.

The workshop in Garland is part of an initiative to support the Texas music scene. Governor Abbott stated, "Music is alive and well deep in the heart of Texas," and "I thank the Texas Music Office for helping communities across our great state develop creative partnerships and create new jobs." The session at the Plaza Theatre in Garland will provide information on the Music Friendly Texas Community certification, outlining its benefits and addressing questions. Gini Mascorro, Community Relations and Outreach Specialist for the Texas Music Office, will lead the session as Garland begins the process of joining more than 70 Texas cities with the designation, as reported by the Office of the Texas Governor.

An interactive session for musicians, venue operators, and others interested in the music industry will take place at the Plaza Theatre, 521 W. State St., Garland, TX, on April 3 at 5 PM.
