During his time at the jail, Roche, who had an undisclosed health condition, began to show signs of distress, leading to him being transferred to the medical department for observation, as WNEM notes; the staff at the jail witnessing his struggle and soon after paramedics were called when he was found unresponsive, the attempts to revive him failed and he was pronounced dead around 3 p.m. on the same day.

Authorities have stated they do not suspect foul play in Roche's death, however, they are waiting on the results of toxicology reports from his autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, as confirmed in a statement by the Genesee County Sheriff's Office reported by Mid-Michigan Now.
