An industrial fire struck the Georgetown Township early Thursday morning, as flames engulfed a section of the Nu Wool insulation manufacturing facility. According to FOX 17, the blaze at the plant on Port Sheldon St, just north of Chicago Dr, was reported around 2:30 a.m. Georgetown Fire Chief Matt DeWitt indicated that the fire spread, requiring a couple of hours to subdue, as crews were further tasked to chase hotspots throughout the structure. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, though the investigation into the fire's origin is ongoing.
Amid the emergency, an outpouring of support from local businesses provided sustenance to the 60 firefighters who had quickly come to respond. Ottawa County Emergency Management - Michigan acknowledged the contributions, naming establishments such as Mr. Burger, Subway, and McDonald's among those who donated food and drinks.
Nu Wool's President Matt Henderson told FOX 17 that the damage was limited to the area housing their sister company CMS, and the main operations of Nu Wool were not affected. Emergency crews and local residents are now focused on rebuilding what the fire threatened to destroy.
The gratitude toward the firefighters extended to the canteen members who served behind the scenes, a sentiment shared by the Ottawa County Emergency Management in their Facebook post, reaffirming the dedication of those who work away from the limelight. "Their commitment and endurance are truly remarkable, and we cannot thank them enough for their service," read the official social media tribute.
