The Germantown Police Department is offering a glimpse into their world with the return of the Citizens Police Academy, as reported by Germantown-TN.gov. Starting April 22 and running through May 15, the program spans several weeks, providing hands-on experience on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m.
This initiative is an immersive dive into the intricacies of the life and duty within a police force—covering SWAT operations, patrol tactics, and even the adrenaline-rushing conduct during an active shooter response, according to the event details shared by the Germantown Police Department on their website. Participants will get to see K-9 demonstrations where dogs leap and officers cheer, witness drones lifting off into the skyline, and get a crash course in traffic enforcement, all while navigating through the often tangled web of legal procedures. The culmination of this comprehensive look into law enforcement is a graduation ceremony set for May 15.
Germantown residents get priority acceptance for the program, which is open to anyone 18 or older. Applicants must pass a background check and apply by April 11. Forms are available at the Germantown Police Department or via email to Lt. Richard Severs.
Applications are available at the Germantown Police Department (1930 S. Germantown Road) or by emailing Lt. Severs at [email protected].
