Last Friday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott solidified his commitment to the state's military future by reappointing three influential figures to the Texas Military Preparedness Commission. This strategic move, aimed to bolster Texas' military defense framework, ensures Michael "Mike" Boyd, Garry Bradford, and Todd Fox will continue to serve on the commission until February 1, 2031. The commission, as outlined by the governor's office, is set to focus on preserving and expanding military missions and encouraging defense-related businesses to take root and grow within the state.
Michael Boyd brings his substantial military and private sector experience back to the table. As mentioned on the official Texas Governor's website, Boyd is a decorated veteran and a recognized leader, having served over three decades in the Texas Army National Guard. Not only has he led in the military sphere, but his leadership extends to roles such as the former chairman of Housley Communications, Inc., and his accolades include being a National Defense Alliance Defense Community Champion for 2024-2025. Boyd's educational qualifications are equally notable, with degrees from Texas A&M University and the Command and Staff General College.
Alongside Boyd, Garry Bradford is set to continue to lend his extensive military and business acumen to uphold Texas' strategic interests. Bradford's resume includes presidency and ownership roles in both business and military organizations. A retired U.S. Army Reserves Colonel with an honorable discharge from prior U.S. Army service, Bradford seems well-suited to the reappointment. His educational background is also robust, as highlighted by his Master of Science in Military Science from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.
Last but not least, Todd Fox, a West Point graduate and former chief of staff for III Corps of the U.S. Army, brings a wealth of knowledge in both military operations and financial services. His perspective is poised to be pivotal as he again takes his post, with the goal to strategically influence the economic and defense sectors of Texas. Fox's educational journey includes advanced studies in everything from Chemical Engineering to Strategic Studies, as outlined on the Office of the Texas Governor's official post.
These appointments underscore Texas' commitment to military preparedness, leveraging the experience and leadership of those who've served with distinction. It should be noted that while these reappointments mark continuity in the commission, they remain subject to Senate confirmation.
