
In the realm of water stewardship, Governor Josh Green has tapped Hannah Kihalani Springer for a seat on the Commission on Water Resource Management (CWRM), a move that brings a wealth of experience in traditional Hawaiian water resource management into the forefront, the Department of Land and Natural Resources reported.
Springer, a native of Kaʻūpūlehu, North Kona, isn't new to environmental advocacy and cultural preservation, having lent her voice and leadership to a variety of councils and boards over the years, among these engagements, her roles on the Hawaiʻi County Planning Commission stand out and the Public Access, Open Space and Natural Resources Preservation Commission, also her tenure as a trustee for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs highlights a storied career dedicated to land and water protection in Hawai'i.
As quoted by the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Governor Green hailed Springer's "lifelong commitment to ʻāina stewardship, cultural wisdom, and public service," declaring her perspective vital for water resource management that mirrors the community's values. Springer herself remarked on her potential to contribute a kamaʻāina's understanding of a water-scarce and fire-prone region to the commission's mission.
On the judicial side of government appointments, Governor Green has nominated Kauanoe A. D. Jackson to the Circuit Court of the Third Circuit on the island of Hawai‘i according to her extensive legal pedigree; since 2007, Jackson has risen through the ranks of the Hawaiʻi County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney to supervise felony prosecutions, a trajectory that has seen her involved in significant cases and administrative leadership in West Hawaiʻi.
Governor Green lauded Jackson's "extensive courtroom experience, steady leadership, and unwavering commitment to public safety and justice," as essential qualifications for her new judicial role, cited by the Department of Land and Natural Resources. While expressing deep honor over the nomination, Jackson pledged to uphold "justice with fairness, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to the people of Hawai‘i Island."
