Recent court documents revealed the reason for Gary Ridgway's brief time at the King County Jail. From September 9-13, 2024, Ridgway was brought to Seattle to assist King County Sheriff’s detectives in searching for the remains of his victims. This was part of an effort to locate undiscovered remains, according to FOX 13 Seattle.
Previous attempts to locate the victims using Ridgway's verbal clues did not lead to results. “Ridgway indicated that he believes he can find these locations in person,” said Casey McNerthney, spokesperson for the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, as reported by Seattle Times.
Gary Ridgway, 76, is serving 49 consecutive life sentences after pleading guilty to 48 murders in 2003 and one more in 2011. He received this sentence in exchange for helping authorities locate the remains of some victims, avoiding the death penalty. While Ridgway's confession suggested a total of 85 victims, many believe the actual number could be higher. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to search for additional remains. "The involved cases remain open," said Capt. Tim Meyer, as stated by Seattle Times.
