Early Wednesday morning, an incident involving a police chase and gunfire erupted on the streets of Aurora, leading to a vehicular crash and two suspects being taken into custody. According to 9NEWS, Aurora Police responded to a felony menacing call near 32nd Avenue and 32nd Place around 1:30 a.m. and identified a small red pickup truck moving eastbound on Colfax Avenue that matched the description of a suspect vehicle.
The situation escalated when another vehicle, a white pickup truck, attempted to intervene. This truck, as reported by KDVR, seemingly tried to block the police from pursuing the red car from East Colfax Avenue onto I-225 heading south. The occupants of the white truck were seen throwing objects out of the vehicle before allegedly firing shots at chasing officers. The chase continued onto I-25 south, culminating in the white pickup truck crashing just before Arapahoe Road after being subject to a PIT maneuver by the police.
Following the crash, two men from the white pickup truck were taken to a hospital with minor injuries. As mentioned by CBS News Colorado, a gun was recovered from the truck, and the suspects are now in custody, with plans to book them into jail after they receive medical treatment. Remarkably, no Aurora Police officers were harmed during the ordeal.
While the suspects from the white truck are being dealt with, authorities remain on the lookout for the individuals and the red vehicle involved in the initial incident. The Aurora Police Department and Metro Denver Crime Stoppers are actively seeking information from anyone who could contribute to the ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, the streets where peace is usually the norm now bear the scars of a night etched by terror and turmoil.
