Harlem Funeral Director Assaulted, Robbed at Machete Point, NYPD Seeks Suspect

The search is on for a man who staged a deceitful attack on a Harlem funeral director, according to the NYPD. ABC7NY reported that the incident occurred on Feb. 17 at the Daniels Wilhelmina Funeral Home located on West 131st Street. The suspect reportedly requested a meeting under the guise of planning a funeral, only to reveal his true intent with violence and theft.

After entering the office, the suspect assaulted the director, a 66-year-old man, and then brandished a machete to elevate his threatening demand for money. He succeeded in his vile act, escaping with the victim's phone and wallet. Despite the altercation and the offer of assistance, the funeral director refused medical attention, as per NYPD statements acquired by ABC7NY.

Authorities are urging those with any information to come forward. New York Post further revealed disturbing details, sharing surveillance footage that depicted the suspect engaging in a seemingly innocuous fist-bump with the funeral director before the violent turn of events. He then "demanded money, punched the victim in the head multiple times and displayed a machete," the NYPD detailed in a statement included in the coverage by New York Post.

The video also showed the alleged criminal in casual conversation with someone on the street, donning a light-colored coat with dark pants beneath a shirt and tie. This sighting has become a critical point of the investigation.
