The Hawai‘i State Commission on Fatherhood (HS-COF) recently unveiled the details for its 2025 awards and sponsorship opportunities, aimed at celebrating the contributions of fathers and father figures, as well as recognizing businesses and nonprofits that support family-friendly practices. According to a Department of Human Services from the commission, these recognitions underscore the importance of paternal roles in establishing strong family bonds across Hawai‘i.
Highlighted in the announcement was the Aloha Father of the Year Award, designed to honor standout men who strike a balance between nurturing their ‘ohana and participating actively in the community. In an effort extended to nominate these figures by the commission, community members invited by the commission are to submit their endorsements of these individuals. The deadline for submissions of applications is set for April 16.
The Parent-Friendly Business of the Year Award forms another pillar of the commission's 2025 program. This distinction is reserved for businesses that have shown exceptional leadership in creating a work environment that values the family unit. Criteria for consideration include good standing in the state, leadership that models positive behaviors, and contributions to local communities or state betterment in terms of educational and support programs.
In addressing aid for nonprofits, the HS-COF provides sponsorship awards reaching a funding ceiling of up to $1,500. Focused on supporting Hawai‘i-based nonprofits that deliver services related to fathers, these financial aids are meant for the orchestration of Father's Day celebrations, fatherhood-centric programs, or assorted community initiatives, with a preference for those events occurring by June 30.
