Early yesterday morning, Hawai'i Police Department's Area II Criminal Investigation Section managed to track down and arrest Robert "Tamatoa" Teinauri-Carman, the 40-year-old man from Ocean View previously wanted on two arrest warrants, as reported by Nixle. Teinauri-Carman, who was considered armed and dangerous, was apprehended near Highway 11 in Pāhala on Thursday, ending a search that started after authorities identified him as a person of interest in a 2022 burglary and issued the warrants, one for an indictment and the other for revocation of bail release.
Before Thursday's arrest, the last confirmed sighting of Teinauri-Carman was on Wednesday near the 49-mile marker on Highway 11 in Ka'ū where he managed to elude police during an initial search, authorities had issued a description of the wanted man listing him at 5 feet 7 inches tall with black hair, brown eyes, and sporting multiple tattoos, in the heights of this manhunt, the public was warned not to approach him and anyone found aiding him could face criminal charges.
The Hawaii Island authorities were actively disseminating information to facilitate his capture, offering a reward for tips leading to his whereabouts with Detective Donovan Kohara as the point of contact for such information.
