When Katelyn Williams, an 18-year-old senior at Liberty Creek High School, found herself amidst an emergency at the Sumner County YMCA in Hendersonville, her actions spoke volumes of her courage and training. WSMV reports that Williams was instrumental in saving the life of Billy Austin, who collapsed in the locker room after his workout. According to Williams, "All I could think about is this somebody's person," she said, reflecting on the immediacy with which she acted applying CPR.
Furthermore, Williams' initiative was joined by two professional nurses from TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center who happened to be nearby. Williams had been questioning her career path, but this act of lifesaving has cemented her determination to "stick with healthcare," a decision heartily supported by her teachers.
The serendipity of the occasion was underscored by the fact that it was Williams' first shift back after a brief hiatus from lifeguarding. This chance return allowed her to be precisely at the right place to potentially and fully use her CPR training at a critical time. NewsChannel 5 notes Katelyn’s extensive CPR training, emphasizing her aspiration to specialize in ER and trauma nursing, an area where she feels most compelled to serve.
