In Hernando County, a man with past convictions was recently sentenced for his failure to adhere to sex offender reporting protocols. Virgle Lewis Eggleton Jr., born on February 8, 1977, appeared before the Circuit Court on February 27 and was found guilty of violating his reporting obligations; subsequently, he was handed a three-year sentence to be served in the Florida Department of Corrections. The declaration detailing the offense was posted by the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, as the information was distributed via Facebook yesterday.
Eggleton initially received his sex offender status after a 2013 judgment for lewd or lascivious conduct with a minor under 16, when Eggleton himself was over the age of 18. This conviction bears with it certain registration requirements. According to officials, the violations included Eggleton's unreported social media presence as well as his failure to notify authorities of a change in employment, which he was obligated to disclose due to his status. Such infractions led to his arrest on July 18, 2024.
Investigators discovered that Eggleton had created a social media account on June 30, 2024, which had not been reported as required. Moreover, it was revealed that Eggleton had been terminated from his job on April 6, 2024, another development he failed to communicate to the authorities. Eggleton defended himself claiming ignorance, stating he was unaware of the need to report such information. Nevertheless, his lack of compliance resulted in charges for failing to report an internet identifier account and a change in employment.
This sequence of events came to a head when Detective G. Marcacci, alongside an FDLE inspector, confronted Eggleton at his residence on Peaceful Avenue in Weeki Wachee. Eggleton admitted to the cited changes and the ownership of the unreported social media account. Despite his admissions, Eggleton was held at the Hernando County Detention Center without the option for bond, reflecting the severity with which authorities address the breach of sex offender reporting requirements.
