The recommended steps include hanging up the phone immediately and not making any payments. If a payment has been made, residents are urged to contact their bank at once and report the scam to law enforcement. It's also advised to validate the authenticity of such calls by contacting the agency directly through an official number from their website.

"These scammers are preying on our residents’ trust and using fear tactics to steal their hard-earned money. Let me be clear—we will not stand for this," Sheriff Chad Chronister stated in a press release. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office emphasizes their commitment to aggressively pursues these cases and work alongside partners to ensure these criminals are brought to justice. Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant and to absolutely report any suspicious activity without delay.
