The Hillsborough Police Department has renewed its call for public assistance following the February 22 shooting of a police officer. The department is seeking dash camera footage from drivers on El Camino Real, between Oak Grove Avenue and Belleville Avenue, from 3:30 PM to 4:15 PM on the day of the incident. The request, made in hopes of acquiring additional evidence, comes as the search for the gunman intensifies.
The police are following up on all leads with the aid of allied agencies. A person of interest, described as an anxious-looking Hispanic male in his mid-20s, was last seen in South San Francisco, according to the Hillsborough Police Department's social media post. He was observed wearing a black trucker hat, black windbreaker, dark jeans, and Nike shoes shortly after the shooting. Although he remains at large, a composite sketch of the individual has been circulated to solicit the public's help.
The incident initially unfolded in an auxiliary building's secure area, where an unauthorized individual fired at an on-duty officer. Following an exchange of gunfire, the suspect escaped on foot, prompting an extensive manhunt. The injured officer, thankfully, is on the path to recovery. As noted by Hoodline, the officer was taken to San Francisco General Hospital and is expected to recover fully.
The Hillsborough Police Department thanks the community for its support and urges anyone with information or relevant camera footage to come forward. Despite this challenging time, the department has expressed gratitude for the solidarity. Individuals with potential evidence must contact Sergeant Jose Ortiz at (650) 375-7561 or by email at [email protected]. Anonymous tips can be sent to [email protected].
